We are very tight on funds at this time and I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. It's very hard to find a place to board him over here in Ennis, so it seems that this is the only option left.<br /><br />I am asking $6500 or best offer and am willing to talk with someone interested. If I feel it is the perfect home, I will work on the price. Please email or call me with any questions!<br /><br />Mindy 406-239-5781<br />theladybugfarm@gmail.comMindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-48449303602349517212010-01-06T15:24:00.000-08:002010-01-06T15:26:56.196-08:00<div style="text-align: center;">When you are tense, let me teach you to relax.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">When you are short tempered, let me teach you to be patient.<br />When you are short sighted, let me teach you to see.<br />When you are quick to react, let me teach you to be thoughtful.<br />When you are angry, let me teach you to be serene.<br />When you feel superior, let me teach you to be respectful.<br />When you are self-absorbed, let me teach you to think of greater things.<br />When you are arrogant, let me teach you humility.<br />When you are lonely, let me be your companion.<br />When you are tired, let me carry the load.<br />When you need to learn, let me teach you.<br />After all, I am your horse.<br /><br />By: Willis Lamm<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFnpvqXt2Ez9Vgfp8q6Pdwq7vlaef_UIxEtmVEn1LvCFX1n0kiSpaoEEcKPzzMXZ-npAZM9Lq9vvBf4XI_EHvmbphFJSFuQnOTGG9yK7CEnKpX5_BsSdv0uL20NLgRg9U0bjsCAUuVjRA/s1600-h/IMG_1111.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 274px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFnpvqXt2Ez9Vgfp8q6Pdwq7vlaef_UIxEtmVEn1LvCFX1n0kiSpaoEEcKPzzMXZ-npAZM9Lq9vvBf4XI_EHvmbphFJSFuQnOTGG9yK7CEnKpX5_BsSdv0uL20NLgRg9U0bjsCAUuVjRA/s400/IMG_1111.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423772210613751714" border="0" /></a><br /></div>Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-64353874948531571272009-11-28T18:51:00.000-08:002009-11-28T19:34:29.654-08:00Pictures!!<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibwBb3lgRbpqjgqIlvCSRCGwSeoMyofVsCEpG4_mbhz7PSQTJ4d4_pJFddk4-D75T7WH5Hh0whq4Umfmsw4TFiYvZvSPE9onhiOrg9_S3sa2nRNz3NrUTalyU82zTpqJRr5QAPoTVfWsg/s1600/IMG_2771.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibwBb3lgRbpqjgqIlvCSRCGwSeoMyofVsCEpG4_mbhz7PSQTJ4d4_pJFddk4-D75T7WH5Hh0whq4Umfmsw4TFiYvZvSPE9onhiOrg9_S3sa2nRNz3NrUTalyU82zTpqJRr5QAPoTVfWsg/s400/IMG_2771.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5409353358609415474" border="0" /></a>This is Stormy, Destino's miniature horse friend. He had been at the Ranch for 3 days and I wanted to see how he was settling in. He wasn't in the corral that I had put him in. He had met most of the horses over the fence and my Friend thought it was time to let him out.<br /><br />She told us that the big horses were all gathered at the fence. Destino dove right through them and made a bee line for the mini horses. There are about 35- 40 mini horses out there. He ran straight up to them, then they started running and they had a big run fest for a little while. <br /><br />When we got there Destino was still hanging out with the minis. It's a pretty funny picture to see a 15 hand Andalusian with all those little guys hanging out around and under his tummy. <br /><br />I called his name and he came right to me. He had somehow made it across the big creek that runs through the 80 acres. They have a bridge and I have a feeling that he tip toed across it to get to the other side. His feet were not wet or muddy. I'm hoping that there will come a time that he is comfortable crossing water. My Friend says that it gets pretty sloppy around there whenever it warms up, so I'm thinking he won't be able to keep his feet clean ;)<br /><br />He was relieved to see me, he kept pushing his face against me chest and followed me everywhere like a huge shadow. I went around and scratched some of the minis, the ones that I knew, introducing Destino to them. (My Friend bought quite a few of her minis from me and Destino had met most of them at one time or another on my farm.) By the time I left he had a little friend, Stormy was a mini that I knew, she had belonged to some other mini Friends of mine. She decided that Destino was alright and was shadowing him when Hubby and I left.<br /><br />I'm thinking I'll head on over there today to see him as well. I'm crossing my fingers that he still remembers me! (I'm going to take a pocket full of treats and his favorite brush to joggle his memory...) I promise I'll take some pictures while I'm there!Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-3542961143151426302009-11-17T08:45:00.000-08:002009-11-17T08:47:44.221-08:00ChangeWell, change is in the air! I've moved Destino over here, closer to me. He is now on a ranch in Sheridan, MT until I can find a place here in Ennis to keep him. Annabelle went to a good friend's house in Stevensville. She feels that she can work her through some of her issues and use her! Cheers! Now I only have to pay board for one horse. I think I can swing that =) That's all for now!Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-2955445001949541462009-10-21T16:25:00.000-07:002009-10-21T16:31:38.279-07:00As Promised!<div style="text-align: center;">Better pictures of Destino and Annabelle =)<br /><br />Aren't they cute together?<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPKvp_1Rw7g6T5qdgzyiZu0iEu0oE9aoUsN1Du2yaulWFHVneHokaakpBBJ7hbuW0litgc6k9uBRZxOKTKcRwSyf1WvkLlE4HzaIO3-3g36kQDm9AYAhogcJUqaa18QYROc0o8lc5mTGs/s1600-h/IMG_2585.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 295px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPKvp_1Rw7g6T5qdgzyiZu0iEu0oE9aoUsN1Du2yaulWFHVneHokaakpBBJ7hbuW0litgc6k9uBRZxOKTKcRwSyf1WvkLlE4HzaIO3-3g36kQDm9AYAhogcJUqaa18QYROc0o8lc5mTGs/s400/IMG_2585.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395199283824735826" border="0" /></a>I love this one with his ear cocked at Annabelle. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3ajbMHSgde_6NcNCzQy0EF2Gy0Imdw9TmbHOBCe3jSV4ll497rKblwEkWfrbdQz_AKMoRiVRSdXclIxs9V7rVYldgfIR8ELGmu_t4mPQ8Nl_qrQmQHRS72WL7fyMq6fNgsKam8MXkFEY/s1600-h/IMG_2603.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 335px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3ajbMHSgde_6NcNCzQy0EF2Gy0Imdw9TmbHOBCe3jSV4ll497rKblwEkWfrbdQz_AKMoRiVRSdXclIxs9V7rVYldgfIR8ELGmu_t4mPQ8Nl_qrQmQHRS72WL7fyMq6fNgsKam8MXkFEY/s400/IMG_2603.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395199297896669266" border="0" /></a>"Hello beautiful."<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRyHHCOwPDGKiHp1W7-TI4Y1UYfEJ2e4OfupPCafXqg7HghAYWUOex-m0wjiKOZzJ0UGbMmnrWZNvoULWNfdaMukZNxQr6mys-zZuUotlNYHHg8_EJq8prBfkDOAzBGTpECdJZG1DPZt8/s1600-h/IMG_2609.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 321px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRyHHCOwPDGKiHp1W7-TI4Y1UYfEJ2e4OfupPCafXqg7HghAYWUOex-m0wjiKOZzJ0UGbMmnrWZNvoULWNfdaMukZNxQr6mys-zZuUotlNYHHg8_EJq8prBfkDOAzBGTpECdJZG1DPZt8/s400/IMG_2609.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395199303288871874" border="0" /></a>This one is so cute! He <span style="font-weight: bold;">has</span> to. It's almost impossible for him to pay attention if he isn't allowed his roll. Thank goodness he doesn't feel so strongly about rolling when we are out on the trails. That could get way too exciting!<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I got some new blue barrels. He hasn't decided if he likes them yet. When we go one direction he will just push one of the barrels out of his way, so he can go through. Then when we go the other direction he'll jump with a little encouragement =) He is so funny! And way too smart sometimes...<br /><br />He is so good about going in the trailer. Once he's in, I ask him to back up, when he gets close to the drop off, I touch his rear with my hand. That's his signal to step down. You'll see in the video. It's pretty neat! He is so calm about it, I can stop him half way out! He'll just stand there and stand there. I love how controlled he is when loading and unloading. <br /></div><br />Here's what we've been up to...<br /><br />Enjoy!<br /><br /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='485' height='403' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyNmMaFGc_J8mJbhI42XUVkVsSX5h06XtWHt8_k8jAfnVDews81HIJPXOYO9YGa9Anq8mG2MS1tFiICWcz54g' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-83715469431898010332009-10-18T17:04:00.000-07:002009-10-18T17:10:49.782-07:00Destino Has A New Friend!Look what Destino got... A pony!<br /><br />She is a little miniature mare that my Grandma had. She used to be a driving horse, but had an accident in the cart and is now un-useable for driving. She has been in with big horses most of her life, so we thought she would be able to hold her own with bossy old Destino and so far so good! I think it works great that she is a mare. He thinks she is wonderful. Unless I'm out there then he spends his time keeping her away from me. But he isn't too mean, just a bit bossy, so I think it will work out well. I decided to just go into his area with my stick (it's pink!) and play a little. I left the gate open out into the pasture, if he wanted to leave he could.<br /><br />He met me at the gate, of course. I played Friendly Game with him, then stepped back and asked him to circle me. The Circle Game isn't his favorite. But he went around once, then looked at me and headed for the gate. I waited, he walked through the gate, immediately disengaged and looked at me. I obviously wasn't going to follow him, so he came back to me. I patted him and then asked him to circle me again. He went around at a nice walk two times with his ear on me. I asked him to disengage and back a few steps, then more Friendly Game, then I asked him to circle me in the other direction. He made it half way around then headed for the gate, went through and immediately disengaged again, saw I wasn't following him, and came back to me. I told him "Good Boy" and petted and petted him. Followed by some more Friendly Game. Then I asked him to circle me again and he did! Two whole circles, I disengaged him and told him "Good Boy!"<br /><br />We were in the middle of his huge pen at this point. He was facing me and behind him a ways was the gate out into the pasture. So I pointed my stick at his feet, swayed it back and forth and did the YoYo Game, back and straight out the gate. I asked him stop once his body was through the gate and then asked him to come back to me. He did it all perfectly. AND during this time a friend of mine and her little girl were riding their horses down our driveway! I stood in the middle of his pen, with him beside me and whenever he would take a step forward I would ask him to back up and stand with me. He did this perfectly until they rode right up to his fence. And even then he didn't break from me to go visit the new comers!<br /><br />What a wonderful feeling it is to have such an awesome relationship with him! I love the fact that he always wants to be with me. He is drawn to me and that is something that I can't explain with words. It leaves me grinning from ear to ear and feeling like we really accomplish something whenever I work with him!<br /><br />Sigh, now if only I could train my Hubby so well =)Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-36634043578937240122009-09-23T08:04:00.000-07:002009-09-23T09:05:59.414-07:00Tuesday September 22<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdJ1qHEBhT7e9RhKzWCSXNMF2l5a4iBJVexeoyD8Imz664n-1_Sye50vfenR5jQgSO9-g3uftLIH6zLJNS-MHlwpzk1Y9ZLWPJ_ri04cbWS01QxAGpu4C693SIGswtCPLGPo-_yt-eLro/s1600-h/IMG_0913.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdJ1qHEBhT7e9RhKzWCSXNMF2l5a4iBJVexeoyD8Imz664n-1_Sye50vfenR5jQgSO9-g3uftLIH6zLJNS-MHlwpzk1Y9ZLWPJ_ri04cbWS01QxAGpu4C693SIGswtCPLGPo-_yt-eLro/s400/IMG_0913.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5384694712598789618" border="0" /></a><br />Yesterday Destino had a small lump removed from his back. He's had it since I got him. I just thought it was a little owie that would heal over time, but it never went away. It was about the size of a penny, right in the middle of his spine, right where I sit. I talked it over with my vet a couple of months ago and he said that he would remove it in the fall, when I wasn't riding him so often. He'll need a few weeks rest.<br /><br />WOW! He cut it off. Hubby said he cut about the size of a silver dollar off, then sewed it back up. I guess he cut open the lump and some clear stuff leaked out and it was full of hair. The vet is going to send it off for testing to be sure it's not cancer. What!? Destino is only 2! I pray it's not cancerous. He doesn't have anything else like that anywhere else, I've checked him over thoroughly.<br /><br />He is pretty sore today. His back is all swollen and tight. I put some Geranium oil on it. It's an antibacterial. Poor Guy!Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-45737300206026320862009-09-03T09:15:00.000-07:002009-09-03T09:28:14.647-07:00Oh My Goodness!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeVGWjne7g0MBFqPVgxqj2MaGcpKHtyXGuZbyP9w2L-0jrxK5BEEZxdf1sxJq-NVAfF0FpmZkPsaBvo5EgBeI1YuAfZij5K_KxQ7l55sY2fo_-PRwMMphTq40tAAwZ70F_vwGrdC9n9P0/s1600-h/IMG_1111.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 274px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeVGWjne7g0MBFqPVgxqj2MaGcpKHtyXGuZbyP9w2L-0jrxK5BEEZxdf1sxJq-NVAfF0FpmZkPsaBvo5EgBeI1YuAfZij5K_KxQ7l55sY2fo_-PRwMMphTq40tAAwZ70F_vwGrdC9n9P0/s400/IMG_1111.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377278614120078690" border="0" /></a><br />I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted! What's wrong with me! It can be hard carrying two blogs, and I've been posting over at Ladybug Farm, but nothing horsey...<br /><br />Destino is doing very well. He is so handsome, I love just looking at him. I can sit out by him while he grazes and just watch him eat. I'm sure he loves all the googly eyed "staring" attention LOL!<br /><br />He is a funny horse. Very smart and always looking for ways to use his brain, and his imagination. He can jimmy his gates, he tries to figure out how to undo the dog collars that I have wrapped around them too. Luckily he hasn't figured them out. Frankly if he does, WOW. It would be amazing, they buckle =)<br /><br />He plays and plays with his balls, he talks to himself in his mirror, he watches everything that goes on. He loves it when I go out and play games with him.<br /><br />We have been working on the circle game. He knows that when I point I want him to go around me. He starts to, then looks around and will walk in a straight line until the lead line pulls him back around the circle. It's so frustrating! He does the sideways game pretty well now, though HATES to do it with a fence in front of him. I don't know why... he's particular.<br /><br />He trotted up the trail with me riding him the other day. He was following Hubby, Little L and Big B up the trail. They were hopping from rock to rock and jogging a bit. Destino was quite excited by them and trotted gaily up the rocky trail. He never took a wrong step! I was so proud! And WOW his trot it so DIE FOR! It's smooth as silk. Even with his head up and ears pricked forward. It makes me so excited to try his canter!<br /><br />First we have to work on forward motion WITHOUT someone or something walking in front of him (he'll even follow Angus, if the boys or Hubby aren't around to follow). I've tried all my tricks and he just stands there, foot cocked, licking and chewing, yawning, and not moving forward. He'll back up, turn in circles, stand all-day-long, but no forward movement! Frustrating.<br /><br />We have a lesson this Saturday at 9am with a Parelli Instructor. We've had several lessons with him and we love them! The lessons are so informative. I feel like an hour lesson tides me over for a month or more. I've saved up and am going to have a lesson this weekend, then another next weekend. Hopefully that will tide me over for a few months!<br /><br />I'll let you know how it goes =)<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAo21-17kcWJHjjV3QKW2iIC73mYI63CoRGAAlN0n7q3Khoq0rmEOcW3Wmr6xaeIOGmw_8ZwE1vyMEtXJp3s0SsOupVLfViU72cGAAz9Gjhz5FI3LoCDyR0-HbU9hDF7MGrMmtb4XZe_U/s1600-h/IMG_1096.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 337px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAo21-17kcWJHjjV3QKW2iIC73mYI63CoRGAAlN0n7q3Khoq0rmEOcW3Wmr6xaeIOGmw_8ZwE1vyMEtXJp3s0SsOupVLfViU72cGAAz9Gjhz5FI3LoCDyR0-HbU9hDF7MGrMmtb4XZe_U/s400/IMG_1096.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377278620601975298" border="0" /></a>Ta Ta for Now!<br /></div>Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-58158666427204471692009-07-27T15:22:00.000-07:002009-07-27T16:46:14.383-07:00The EventMy Mom and I made the 3 hour trip up north on Friday to witness <span style="font-weight: bold;">"The Event"</span> and all I can say is WOW!! <a href="http://www.rebeccafarm.org/"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Rebecca Farms</span></a> is an absolutely gorgeous place to be. As far as the eye could see were rolling hills, green grass and AMAZING jumps. The eye candy was by far the many many beeeeeautiful horses being ridden, being lead around, being jumped and doing dressage. It was just simply amazing. I can't wait to go back and hope that I can be so lucky next year. And as usual, I took LOTS of pictures. 250 to be exact. BUT I'll just show you a few =) Don't want to bore you or anything!!<br /><br />Onto the show...<br /><div style="text-align: center;">This is the second jump in the Training Level cross country course.<br /><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhwcLwCdv85_DkqszDA6_C5OBWFjPJg_hyphenhyphentxbABzoIQpoA1fYpZwYGOnA9yBngcLUkaSlcGFzYnPF-tZjlNShM1wnHvoCEQVYQPX0PKIxI2JIF-tsSi7q1VyZmn9sEuUczh239Q7fqma4/s1600-h/IMG_0475.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 221px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhwcLwCdv85_DkqszDA6_C5OBWFjPJg_hyphenhyphentxbABzoIQpoA1fYpZwYGOnA9yBngcLUkaSlcGFzYnPF-tZjlNShM1wnHvoCEQVYQPX0PKIxI2JIF-tsSi7q1VyZmn9sEuUczh239Q7fqma4/s400/IMG_0475.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363283746469611154" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTlZBXOOpjkCnEoWvZNR21doPQiR7_wNB99bkkj4nfg4i2kcwzTd7igRcG6b7UZgDLblTDymaDHwj5YkR8TzIP3_MfYPIC6Mu1z3Nm3WXd4acpEX3M-xeMQtF450YG7YIEUWXHIlkrlIs/s1600-h/IMG_0503.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTlZBXOOpjkCnEoWvZNR21doPQiR7_wNB99bkkj4nfg4i2kcwzTd7igRcG6b7UZgDLblTDymaDHwj5YkR8TzIP3_MfYPIC6Mu1z3Nm3WXd4acpEX3M-xeMQtF450YG7YIEUWXHIlkrlIs/s400/IMG_0503.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363283755370165906" border="0" /></a>I'm not sure what number the jump above and below in the next two photos was, but it was somewhere in the middle.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUVkfbx3ZBsiAVG0WsFUdcL0NN3V54KaWxdQZtSsPLgxDuHzpCzo-fCwbE-e2ZJTADcFG76jzj9HM5mi5GcGSLu2U-mEHwKH4XWnAhO2L3eNb6xK7RI_LXkTv6dcTjX5j-5xzrDzrEKIo/s1600-h/IMG_0544.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 318px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUVkfbx3ZBsiAVG0WsFUdcL0NN3V54KaWxdQZtSsPLgxDuHzpCzo-fCwbE-e2ZJTADcFG76jzj9HM5mi5GcGSLu2U-mEHwKH4XWnAhO2L3eNb6xK7RI_LXkTv6dcTjX5j-5xzrDzrEKIo/s400/IMG_0544.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363283758193716498" border="0" /></a>What a handsome horse the above one is. About 6 weeks ago, Mom got a big, handsome, white, Missouri Fox Trotter gelding. He hadn't been fed enough and one could see all his ribs and hip bones... poor boy. We had a blast up there. The boys and Hubby played on the Fitness Trail and Destino and I hiked and hiked.<br /><br />We played lots of games. I haven't had a chance to play with Destino for a few weeks, so we had a little re-fresher course. He did great!<br /><br />This time Angus came along. He was such a good little dog. He was either just behind Destino or trotting the trail in front of me. When I would stop to jump Destino over downed trees, or just play a game with him, Angus would sit down and watch from a safe distance away. He's such a smart little guy!<br /><br />We saw quail, pigeons, deer, people walking on the trail and a few other horses. Destino took it all in stride. When Angus flushed the quail, my heart jumped into my throat at all the racket, but Destino didn't even miss a stride. And he wasn't so focused on eating either. He spent more time looking around at the scenery. It was a great day!<br /><br />Onto the pictures...<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqLUVaHzryQ6wunMVYMoVC-iumbecP4SwLkXvAyMBMorgrWRcFrdnb1NBATAkxorzyZ4bSUrwrxjGKrn0j7ACTgxPhB1n1sqBg5HXSv0HSdk4kegC7IqZChUApKx0GEtgm7qEJXP0rFfk/s1600-h/IMG_0106.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqLUVaHzryQ6wunMVYMoVC-iumbecP4SwLkXvAyMBMorgrWRcFrdnb1NBATAkxorzyZ4bSUrwrxjGKrn0j7ACTgxPhB1n1sqBg5HXSv0HSdk4kegC7IqZChUApKx0GEtgm7qEJXP0rFfk/s400/IMG_0106.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357725704533113938" border="0" /></a>Here's the trail we chose. It looks a lot like the other one we hike in the photo, but the terrain is different. On this trail you actually have to climb =) It's good for both Destino and myself...<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbrfyd0oCqyTJbAlb0mcWn-k9Tabwvji9MqTv_oSu1MJv3UE9jVtYZpQAN3FiE9BkY8LwuvSffl4rSzhSuLTmYNRnhdolOEVKW0vhayk1LerHM9ehOQVt-tdx_iCGnpIxkrl3C64Hj3Bw/s1600-h/IMG_0081.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 394px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbrfyd0oCqyTJbAlb0mcWn-k9Tabwvji9MqTv_oSu1MJv3UE9jVtYZpQAN3FiE9BkY8LwuvSffl4rSzhSuLTmYNRnhdolOEVKW0vhayk1LerHM9ehOQVt-tdx_iCGnpIxkrl3C64Hj3Bw/s400/IMG_0081.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357725696127003202" border="0" /></a>Here is the beginning of our hike. This is at the end of the hike. He was so good here that I actually walked him around in a circle!! I tried to get Craig to help direct him across the parking lot, but he wouldn't so I hopped off. I *think* we could have done it but don't want to until I KNOW we can =)<br /><br />The End!<br /></div>Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-8764738226363740722009-06-26T17:29:00.000-07:002009-06-26T17:47:33.234-07:00Miniature HorsesI am still taking Destino up to Bass/Larry Creek for hikes. We have a blast up there and are getting SO MUCH done! I have graduated to sitting on him for long periods of time and sometimes we take a couple of steps, forward and sometimes backwards. I am really enjoying this time with him.<br /><br />Last weekend I went to a Miniature Horse show in Missoula MT. What fun I had visiting with old friends! Something that I find very enjoyable is to play the 7 games as we hike. It seems to make it a bit more meaningful to Destino and to myself =)<br /><br />First we walk down the trail. When he crowds me I use the yo yo game to back him up a bit. I also will have him move his front end over and then yo yo him back. We did this lots tonight, so I decided to try something. I turned him to face a steep hill and we did the sideways game! We have NEVER been able to do the sideways game at home, but tonight he did it perfectly both directions with the hill in front of him! The hill was very helpful because if he went forward, it was REALLY hard. He found it was much easier to just go sideways! Yea!!<br /><br />He is afraid of water. So, I have him put his nose on trees that grow close to the stream. The touch it game!<br /><br />I drive him over fallen trees, then disengage him and pop him back over the tree.<br /><br />I have him do the figure eight in between tree stumps.<br /><br />I play the squeeze game between myself and a tree, or myself and the creek or a tree stump and a tree.<br /><br />When we get in tight situations, with trees and brush close in on the trail, I'll yo yo him back and bring him forward and yo yo him back. He has learned to yo yo back very straight.<br /><br />I also yo yo him back over small fallen trees. They will pop up a bit, touching his legs, as he crosses them, IF he steps on them. He is learning to pick his feet up a bit more AND to not be afraid when a tree branch touches his legs!<br /><br />Tonight I swung my string up in a leafy tree. It would catch a branch and shake it, high up over his head. When he could walk up and touch that tree with his nose he got a Good Boy and a treat!<br /><br />THEN I jumped up on him again. Lots and lots of times. THIS time I had Hubby take a photo so I could prove it! At the end of the hike, I jumped up on him a few more times, then I actually SAT up there! Straddling him!! It was so exciting! Hubby was nervous, but Destino took it all in stride. He is such a good boy.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjnOinJbFj0ivQpaqNlAoawzuqDSuHxn0KI8XfPT80BtSVjxxIYE1AzldJdCvTjoogZZp2qBk_WorHxQjd6pqEoaDMfaQpPsO3scYEWerNm2xxA7tYR5kmydX0GEZ4YLv5e0wI6A2sYLQ/s1600-h/100_0312.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 307px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjnOinJbFj0ivQpaqNlAoawzuqDSuHxn0KI8XfPT80BtSVjxxIYE1AzldJdCvTjoogZZp2qBk_WorHxQjd6pqEoaDMfaQpPsO3scYEWerNm2xxA7tYR5kmydX0GEZ4YLv5e0wI6A2sYLQ/s400/100_0312.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341457159057057410" border="0" /></a>Getting ready to hop up there!<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEczWjThJxZVbiXBEeSYIdKSld29bwmU5GSYIpqRjgd6ZI5K18S7TQZ1nAqtt7zrqqvc6lgB0fwtDPgvzgn2HmvyNQc67zkQSMjXBSSifehxSV724sbivkYTvqzLdmyQPDgEYZUK7RtLA/s1600-h/100_0310.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 329px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEczWjThJxZVbiXBEeSYIdKSld29bwmU5GSYIpqRjgd6ZI5K18S7TQZ1nAqtt7zrqqvc6lgB0fwtDPgvzgn2HmvyNQc67zkQSMjXBSSifehxSV724sbivkYTvqzLdmyQPDgEYZUK7RtLA/s400/100_0310.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341457157904707986" border="0" /></a>Ta Da!! Hubby caught him with his head up, but he was pretty relaxed. After this shot he dropped his head and licked and chewed. When I straddled him, he had his head down, relaxed and sighed! Yea!<br /></div><br />I think that taking him hiking and playing the games has solidified lots of things for both of us. It is sure a lot more fun that just playing at home in the round pen. When we are hiking we get to see other people riding, deer cross the trail and there are a bunch of cows up there to watch as well. Not to mention all the trail experience he is getting. Another big plus is that it's GREAT for me! Exercise is NOT my favorite thing to do, but exercising WHILE training Destino seems like a win win!Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-62365343112563556542009-05-27T17:36:00.000-07:002009-05-27T17:44:10.255-07:00HikingI thought I would share our hike with you. Yesterday I took Destino up to a beautiful camping/hiking place called Bass Creek/Larry Creek. It was gorgeous up there and it SMELLED sooooo GOOD! We had a great time and I even GOT ON HIM!!! I was so excited and he was so good. He really didn't care at all.<br /><br />Today my Mom and I went up there and she rode her little mare, Marley. We had a blast together, even though Destino decided to show off the entire time and be a goof ball. He was all a two year old today! But he was pretty funny to watch. I laid across his back at the beginning of the hike, but didn't get on again. I will tomorrow, here at home.<br /><br />I'm so proud of him!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjkPgKRyYCL_VmW9is0SPPIylAgYR8Y7eH97NfJJpjA9Y4XJHvuR-3rLQ3kN8D6fYzXFaFpfalMIau39PVdJQVIV87OCTsbkmo3VMrSIZM2XS1Bbg7FOxl8ugGw8-78crvUWYKHEgkgYQ/s1600-h/IMG_9885.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjkPgKRyYCL_VmW9is0SPPIylAgYR8Y7eH97NfJJpjA9Y4XJHvuR-3rLQ3kN8D6fYzXFaFpfalMIau39PVdJQVIV87OCTsbkmo3VMrSIZM2XS1Bbg7FOxl8ugGw8-78crvUWYKHEgkgYQ/s400/IMG_9885.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340668445196296626" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRcu3YHWpwJ9YtiDI_QqJ0r25n_JZ_JsZmhEJ82tNi5sA-fi4Ko853IfYwHtJXCeRYGSZan7l01dO3A4kmnMFEL_GQE_uuMH_QylrqOknb2ua3T16arofGFP-FAu_mdjMxVDLznFOgBH4/s1600-h/IMG_9886.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRcu3YHWpwJ9YtiDI_QqJ0r25n_JZ_JsZmhEJ82tNi5sA-fi4Ko853IfYwHtJXCeRYGSZan7l01dO3A4kmnMFEL_GQE_uuMH_QylrqOknb2ua3T16arofGFP-FAu_mdjMxVDLznFOgBH4/s400/IMG_9886.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340668447616093090" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc3hqUPbVHDrfQglSEYvMZrukYqHW8Msb0ZelooqssS3hZUgfSIIQwQevNSWg4n0JMK2dK-PTeWgopwnZPaaBtDosS4eSe4u7-mG1DMoRkM_BlcqpJv6qC3uP7TZgCFwMLImaHAxtJBlY/s1600-h/IMG_9894.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc3hqUPbVHDrfQglSEYvMZrukYqHW8Msb0ZelooqssS3hZUgfSIIQwQevNSWg4n0JMK2dK-PTeWgopwnZPaaBtDosS4eSe4u7-mG1DMoRkM_BlcqpJv6qC3uP7TZgCFwMLImaHAxtJBlY/s400/IMG_9894.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340668451166320434" border="0" /></a>Look at his tongue =)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEintKUXQkr5fji_eaQcuoxnftJVdrVOmKq5z6GR6gXfeWdBagexqks1G31JQfrzitWxOgTc9rE6uY-1WcuVamD8In0_mu4SKGACCCVCe4VMag79UNXF37nK_E_dtuHYmZhY8t6BtFxpUdQ/s1600-h/IMG_9896.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEintKUXQkr5fji_eaQcuoxnftJVdrVOmKq5z6GR6gXfeWdBagexqks1G31JQfrzitWxOgTc9rE6uY-1WcuVamD8In0_mu4SKGACCCVCe4VMag79UNXF37nK_E_dtuHYmZhY8t6BtFxpUdQ/s400/IMG_9896.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340668458930965490" border="0" /></a>This is a photo of the trail. We put them in a nice big, green pasture and they hung out for a few hours. He hasn't been in with another horse for a very long time. He definitely doesn't know horse language and misreads things. But Marley will teach him. She put it to him a few times, only when he deserved it though =) <br /><br />I watched her sidle up to him, to share a little groom time. She reached up over his back (it's quite a reach for her!) and started to scratch his wither area. He reached down and nipped her hind leg. She squealed and kicked at him and off he went! It will be interesting watching Marley teach him about horses and how they communicate.<br /><br />I'll have to take some pictures tomorrow. <br /><br />Oh! And I think Destino will help get Marley in shape. He had her running and trotting around the pasture for a pretty long time, at least for her. He wanted to keep going, but she had had enough and "needed" to eat. He ran around her for a little longer, then gave up and started eating too.<br /><br />Fun!<br /></span>Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-31005613345778896962009-05-08T18:18:00.000-07:002009-05-08T18:25:00.657-07:00Destino's Growing Up!Destino is looking so grown up! Well except for his little bit of butt-high-ness. Just look at him in his bareback pad! I got this from my saddle maker friend Ray Vierra. I built him a website (click <a href="http://rayvierracustomsaddleco.webs.com/">here</a> to see it!) and in exchange he made me this pad! I am SO lucky. We played on the cross country jump course, not that I had him jump anything. Once in a while he would get excited and leap across the log instead of step across and as you'll see in one of the photos below he got all fired up and LEAPED off a little hill that was part of a HUGE jump. I stood up there on that jump and thought... "I will never ride him over this jump. I would DIE." LOL<br /><br />He was such a good boy and even played with Hubby (who is not a horse person) a little bit so I could get a few of the shots that I wanted =)<br /><br />On with the picture show!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMvYX6upVwTpFdbWxdRzWjHYLSaStiZzFzg3makMLU0KuYbHT2HK_43EoW3RvC6UDYuOFYJ7HSsF12U_en-VncRggL9HdkMiSLsv4IxhZkoUeZueYKI_oVFcwGIqK7uIAe3hRkDY7loCQ/s1600-h/IMG_9525_2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 346px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMvYX6upVwTpFdbWxdRzWjHYLSaStiZzFzg3makMLU0KuYbHT2HK_43EoW3RvC6UDYuOFYJ7HSsF12U_en-VncRggL9HdkMiSLsv4IxhZkoUeZueYKI_oVFcwGIqK7uIAe3hRkDY7loCQ/s400/IMG_9525_2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5331790325327907586" border="0" /></a>Here he is just after we unloaded. Whoo hoo are they a nice couple!!<br /><br /></div>Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-55331165046186010812009-04-29T20:19:00.000-07:002009-04-29T20:27:17.390-07:00Reading<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHns8HUVTxUTW89iRydhdRWekm_OU5v6xh71Une7Y5tQXxyThDtZz7oHfqGnoqo8fF3WwHNGiwQBT0-SSQBbJfvytS0H8XEPQegvEuTpVxlnwMU4xJkZqbYw5BM2En0MTU-bJxyvuPcVU/s1600-h/IMG_9470.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 288px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHns8HUVTxUTW89iRydhdRWekm_OU5v6xh71Une7Y5tQXxyThDtZz7oHfqGnoqo8fF3WwHNGiwQBT0-SSQBbJfvytS0H8XEPQegvEuTpVxlnwMU4xJkZqbYw5BM2En0MTU-bJxyvuPcVU/s400/IMG_9470.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330320427513945714" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">The photo on the cover of the book is of a Morgan stallion owned and ridden by Eitan Beth-Halachmy, the founder of "Cowboy Dressage".<br /><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">The book of the week is "Natural Horsemanship Explained" by Dr. Robert M. It's totally exhausting. Destino is constantly challenging me. If I am standing by his fence, he is trying to bite me. If I am leading him down the trail, he is trying to boss me. (By the way,we had a wonderful time hiking up at Blue Mountain last week! It was so pretty up there. I look forward to many more hikes and many, many rides up there in the years to come. Hopefully minus the whole "Who is the Boss" issue.) He bosses the chickens, he bosses his balls, he bosses the fences. Really it's getting ridiculous! <br /><br />It is nearly impossible for me to stand and talk with someone, while holding him. He is HORRIBLE! I really need help with this issue and hope there is someone out there who will help us! The problem is, we would really benefit from a Parelli clinic, but can not afford that. The Play Days are all I can afford and only one a month. At the last one Ethan noticed our Domination problem... well EVERYONE noticed our problem =) Ethan helped me with him. I'm supposed to work on him backing up and moving his forehand. He does both of these things well. He is light and easy to move, but he figets CONSTANTLY and is always pushing into my space. I stand with my back to him and use my stick to keep him back but I am nearly always tapping him, whacking him or popping him with it. I swing the end of my rope, if he happens to stick his nose in my space, it will get popped by the end of the rope. <br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">I am EXAUSTED.</span><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br />There is NOTHING fun about working with Destino anymore. The fun has drained out these last 3 or 4 days. I don't think he has fun and I KNOW that I don't. There is no play and certainly nothing beautiful or graceful in what we are doing. I know it's not working, but just don't know what else to do with him! <br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">I am so FRUSTRATED.</span><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">He must be too. Sigh... Hopefully the next post will be wonderful! Full of good things, moving forward things and happy, happy thoughts!!<br /></div></div></div></div>Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-39677579991403184512009-04-23T18:23:00.000-07:002009-04-23T18:34:35.224-07:00Sigh...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdQz-hdVrI96bmZ88s0Y-bzWRkhyFBiC-moIorvGoslNGWr1Y0EFXFFYcM1ybLOcV0Dd4Gry6PaSp6Dbw1xm0sQCAnKEpnumfUlhwVeiaycTyuArNiBlHjqxrFp58gPGbdok-53HUN1Zk/s1600-h/IMG_9439.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdQz-hdVrI96bmZ88s0Y-bzWRkhyFBiC-moIorvGoslNGWr1Y0EFXFFYcM1ybLOcV0Dd4Gry6PaSp6Dbw1xm0sQCAnKEpnumfUlhwVeiaycTyuArNiBlHjqxrFp58gPGbdok-53HUN1Zk/s400/IMG_9439.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5328065095617376578" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Training a horse is hard.<br /></div><br />Sometimes I come into the house after playing with Destino and I'm on Cloud 9. We played so well together, working in sync with each other, practically dancing with each other. Moving with grace and beauty.<br /><br />Then some days I come in the house and feel terrible! I feel like we took three HUGE steps backwards. I feel like he pushed me all over the place and didn't work in partnership with me at all. I feel like we worked and didn't play.<br /><br />Today is one of the work days. Sigh...<br /><br />Tomorrow I think I'm going to take Destino to Blue Mountain and go hiking. I think we both need a change of scenery. I know I'm bored! I'm pretty sure he's acting out because he's bored too.<br /><br />He was just so grumpy today. I'm feeling so grumpy tonight. I must snap out of it!Mindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12182163463032598150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861705806650602471.post-4067382007261191012009-04-21T20:43:00.000-07:002009-04-21T22:08:17.179-07:00Who's Teaching Who?I recently took Destino to a "Play Day" in Victor MT. These are hosted by Ethan Zimmerman and Lori Roy, Level 3 Parelli Students. They have these play days 4 times a month, usually on a Saturday and Sunday, twice a month. They are directed at the Parelli way of playing with your horse. I enjoy the Parelli way for two reasons, one, I love how he breaks down the games into easy to understand training sessions, and two, these Play Days are VERY affordable and a whole day of Fun with fellow horse people.<br /><br />I do have a problem with one thing in particular. Last weekend, I was told that horses don't speak English and don't understand what we are saying when we use verbal language. They ONLY understand body language. I understand this way of thinking, but just happen to be a person that believes that horses, animals as a whole, understand English way more than we give them credit for. Maybe they don't know that the sparkly things in our ears are "earings" or those red, flannel, pants, with the sheep on them, that I wear in the morning to feed, are called "Pajamas". I do believe that they are actually quite capable of understanding us with or without our body language.<br /><br />Tonight I was working with Destino, who had taken it in his mind that he was going to run wildly around me, ignoring me and digging into the gravel deeper and deeper, going faster and faster. Very annoying to me, little old Two Legs here, who is absolutely NOT capable of running at those speeds even on a good day! Talk about jealous, I'm postively <span style="color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">GREEN</span> with it =)<br /><br />So I brought him in to do some up close and personal work. There is a Parelli "game" called ThePorcupine Game. The object of the game is to ask the horse to move it's feet with the smallest amount of pressure that you can use. First you start by putting your fingers on the horse's side, touching only the air, if the horse doesn't move, then touch the hair, if the horse doesn't move, then touch the skin, if the horse doesn't move, then touch the muscle, if the horse doesn't move then touch the bone. Well... Destino normally will move away from pressure if I just point at his side. Tonight I had to practically <span style="font-weight: bold;">PICK</span> him up and <span style="font-weight: bold;">MOVE </span>him over! He just stood there, happily leaning into the pressure. The more I pushed the more he pushed. I was so intent looking at my fingers digging into his side, waiting for him to give the slightest movement sideways, he was happy to go on leaning on me...... Finally, a slight movement of his hind foot, sideways, phew!<br /><br />Move forward in time to 30 minutes later, I decide to try the Porcupine game again. I move to his side, put my fingers up to touch the air, nothing, I look up over his back, in the direction that I want him to move, and touch the hair, he moved his hind feet perfectly, one crossing the other gracefully and smoothly. The main thing I want you to notice about this paragraph is that I <span style="font-weight: bold;">LOOKED UP OVER HIS BACK</span>, <span style="font-weight: bold;">IN THE DIRECTION THAT I WANTED HIS FEET TO MOVE</span>. In the paragraph before this one, I was intently LOOKING AT MY FINGERS PRESSING INTO HIS SIDE. Geesh! I wonder who was training who tonight!<br /><br />Sometimes I wonder if I'm smart enough to train this horse, or if he will be training me the entire time.... <span style="font-size:85%;">LOL</span><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;">"The fate of animals is in our hands.<br />God grant that we are equal to the task."</span> <div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;">Professor Tom Regan </span><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTmz5XIK7JsAOxP3c5YTdJjIYdxntYOqhOYbQy-XZslc2hVNtjUqYpkpHZ_QQd5Vt06Ap2qTOio1JGoJmuDnV4pbeSVIPAtXX3e-Wuhv6jg-I7Nm_nfUdERWAnVSWgd3bDniUIE0Ygne0/s1600-h/destinosears.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTmz5XIK7JsAOxP3c5YTdJjIYdxntYOqhOYbQy-XZslc2hVNtjUqYpkpHZ_QQd5Vt06Ap2qTOio1JGoJmuDnV4pbeSVIPAtXX3e-Wuhv6jg-I7Nm_nfUdERWAnVSWgd3bDniUIE0Ygne0/s400/destinosears.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327367306201590370" border="0" /></a><br />The book of the week is<br />"What Horses Say, How to Hear, Help and Heal Them"<br />by, Anna Clemence Mews<br />&<br />Julie Dicker<br /><br />Three words....
